with Annie Webster PhD
Join Annie as she leads you on a journey through the evolution of consciousness in her online philosophy circles. Together, we will explore the origins of consciousness, its purpose, and how it develops across different forms of life. Expect to engage with profound questions about the nature of awareness, the mysteries of the unconscious mind, and how consciousness connects us to the world around us. This course invites you to reflect on what it truly means to be conscious, both individually and collectively.

A "philosophy circle" is a collaborative space where participants sit in a circle to engage in thoughtful discussions around philosophical questions. These circles are designed to broaden and deepen participants' appreciation of the topic at hand. Each session is guided by a set of discussion rules and facilitated by Annie, who is trained in facilitating discussions and has a strong background in philosophy.
Annie, your facilitator, has been a passionate student of philosophy for 15 years and has been leading circles for both adults and children for the past 8 years. To learn more about Annie and her journey, click here.
The Circles
1st Circle - Origins of Consciousness: Brain, Heart or Spirit?
Join us as we explore one of the fundamental questions of philosophy: What is consciousness? In this circle, we’ll examine the origins of consciousness and consider whether it’s a product of our biological brain or something more, perhaps an immaterial essence like the soul or spirit. Do only humans have consciousness, or is it a feature of other beings on this earth as well?
2nd Circle - The Purpose of Consciousness: Survival or the God's Experience?
Building on the insights from the first circle, we’ll now delve into one of the most intriguing questions about consciousness: Why do we have it? Is consciousness a product of evolution designed to aid our survival, a happy accident, or is there a deeper, more mysterious purpose? Could it be a tool that allows us to experience and understand the world in a richer, more profound way? Or is it our connection to a higher consciousness?
3rd Circle - The Unconscious Mind: The Hidden Forces Within
This week, we dive into the depths of the mind. Consciousness may be our waking awareness, but what about the unconscious? What are the forces at play in the parts of our psyche that we are largely unaware of? We will explore how the unconscious connects with our conscious mind and whether it holds the key to understanding the full scope of human awareness.
4th Circle - Diversity of Consciousness: From Animal to Enlightenment
In our final circle, we broaden our lens to explore the vast spectrum of consciousness. What does it mean to be conscious? Do animals, plants, and even artificial intelligence experience forms of awareness, or is human consciousness uniquely complex? Are some people more conscious than others, and how do we define “enlightenment”? Together, we’ll explore the diverse possibilities of what it means to be conscious.
The Price
Price for all 4 Circles
The price of the philosophy circles course is £40. This fee grants you access to four online sessions, each lasting one hour and 15 minutes, where you’ll engage in thought-provoking discussions with fellow participants. The facilitator will introduce relevant philosophical content when appropriate, which will be shared with you via email, along with a summary of the discussions.

Wye Philosophy also offers two alternative pricing options for participants. A no-questions-asked reduced price of £30 is available for those who feel they cannot afford the full fee. Additionally, a 'full price + donation' option is available for £50, allowing those who can contribute a bit more to help support participants utilizing the reduced price.

If you choose this option Annie will aim to hold your experience through all 4 circles connecting your thoughts and arguments to the larger 'living with food' picture. Your questions and thought processes will be prioritised over those who opt to only come in on one or two circles.

Price for one Circle
If you are not interested in the whole course, but you feel drawn to one or two cricles (to either take part or just to listen to the discussion), then you can pay to join events individually.

The cost per circle looks like this: Full price: £12, Reduced: £10, Full price + donation £14.

If you choose this option, you will be a welcomed participant in your chosen circle, however, the direction of the discussion will largely be chosen by the individuals who have paid to take part for the full course.
